Actions dictate priorities

by jeremy.g.long / Life

A simple, but powerful reminder:

Actions dictate priorities.

You can have the best intentions in the world but if you don’t follow it up with action it’s as good as useless.

For example: I’ve wanted to get back into the gym for the past few weeks but I haven’t done so. Nothing is keeping me away from the gym, mind you. I’ve got a membership, I’ve got a working vehicle, my legs and arms are working at 100% efficiency… my lazy ass just hasn’t made time to do it. I haven’t made it a priority.

I’ve had every intention of going. My feelings are coming from a genuine place of wanting to better myself — but my actions say otherwise. They say that getting healthier isn’t a priority.

Can you call yourself a blogger… if you’re not creating blog posts? Are you a salesperson… if you’re not making cold calls and follow-ups a priority? If you’re a content creator and your last piece of content you’ve put out was this past summer… are you really a content creator?

Who you hope to be doesn’t matter if you don’t put these things into motion.

Want to run a marathon? Set that alarm, lace those shoes up and get running.

Want to travel the world? Save that money, buy a plane ticket and board the plane.

Want to write a book? Jot those ideas down, put pen to paper or get those fingers typing on a keyboard every day.

Because in the end, when our life’s work is written out in an obituary or on a wikipedia page, our thoughts, dreams and hopes won’t be mentioned… only the things we put into action.

Only our priorities.
